The Pat Chappell Mess

The Pat Chappell Mess was established in 2017 honouring Oshawa Naval Veterans’ Club Shipmate and Member Pat Chappell.  He was one of the founding members of the Club following World War II.  Pat was also one of the founding Members who obtained financing via loans/mortgages to have the Viola location built.  Navy veterans wanted a place to call their own for fellowship and camaraderie, as well as being a community partner in Oshawa.  Once the financing was repaid to the founding members, they donated the building to the Members of the Oshawa Naval Veterans’ Club.  The Club now operates under the stewardship of the Oshawa Naval Veterans’ Club Executive.

Pat served in the Canadian Merchant Navy and following his service, worked at General Motors Oshawa for 39 years.  During his retirement, Pat attended the lower deck clubroom regularly, often bringing family and friends to show off the Club he was very proud of.  Sadly, Pat crossed the bar on April 13, 2020 at the age of 92.  The Club was glad that he had the opportunity before his passing, to enjoy the clubroom named after him.  Pat was the last surviving founding member of the Club.

Fair winds and following seas Pat.  We have the watch from here.
